In 1992, Campbell began his career as a classification officer, initially working in the reception area and then transitioning to administrative segregation and extended lockdown. In 1996, he promoted to supervisor, where he had responsibility for the IMPACT program during a transition from boot camp to a treatment program within a military model. December 2005, he promoted to executive management officer, assuming responsibility for institutional policy and procedures, and facility accreditation.
In 2011, he promoted to Headquarters as the sex offender assessment panel administrator, support for media-related projects and judicial liaison for video court appearances.
In August, 2016 he promoted back to EHCC as Assistant Warden for Administration where he became responsible for managing the facilities $71m annual budget. He was then promoted to Deputy Warden where he currently manages the Assistant Warden for Administration, Religious Programs, Educational Programs and all offender programming.
Campbell has maintained Certified Corrections Manager certification since 2008 and served as Vice-President of the Louisiana Correctional Association from 2018 thru 2021until he was elected to serve as President beginning in 2021, a member of Southern States Correctional Association and the North American Association of Wardens & Superintendents. He is a facilitator for the Victim Offender Dialogue program and is an advisory board member for Keep Louisiana Beautiful.
