There are more than 64,000 Louisiana children who have an incarcerated parent and as studies show that children with an incarcerated parent are more likely to commit criminal behavior. Education is a critical factor to reducing the likelihood that a child finds themselves on the path to criminal behavior.
To address these statistics, the Louisiana Correctional Association (LCA) has initiated a service project to provide school supply kits to children of those incarcerated in Louisiana. LCA volunteers distribute the kits through the visiting rooms are state prison facilities across the state. Children are provided with a basic elementary supply kit and book sack after visiting and gives the offender population a chance to communicate with their children about them importance of education.
We are asking LCA members to help by volunteering!!! We need help distributing the school supply kits to the children on visiting days in various facilities.
